2Mins? What does it make you remember? 2 Mins? Maggi Maggi Maggi?. Okay. What else apart from that? Afterall 2mins is nothing isnt it. You snooze the alarm and 2 mins are just gone like that!, in a second. But those 2 mins give you immense pleasure and are a great source of happiness. Don’t you agree?
Recently I thought how can I use these 2 mins to change my life. I have been following a simple rule of 2 mins (sometimes 5 mins). This rule is helping me to crush procrastination making it easier to finish things quickly and sticking to good habits at the same time. With this article, I will share my experience and my way of seeing this rule and see how it works in your life.
The best part? Its so easy and simple strategy to use. Here’s what you need to know:
There are two parts to the 2–Minute Rule:
Part 1 — JUST DO IT
I apply this rule every single day for more than two years now. This has also started reflecting in my work with a positive result.
Just to give an example of my real-life scenario, I have made a habit to wash dishes and clean kitchen immediately when meal is finished. My parents or sometime my friends laughed at me, asking me why I do it so immediately? It is not my mistake, but my brain now automatically follows this simple rule.
Every time I ask myself, can this task be finished in next 2-5 mins?. And if answer is Yes, then, JUST DO IT. That’s the Power of 2-Minute Rule.
Ask yourself, how many things you put off today that could be done in two minutes or less. For example, washing your dishes, cloths in the washing machine, throwing garbage bag, cleaning up room, sending that email, and so on…
Part 2 – Start New Habit in Next Two Minute.
Can all of your goals be reached in less than two minutes? Obviously not.
As we all studied Newton’s Law in science long back, “Objects at rest tend to stay at rest and objects in motion tend to stay in motion”
Want to become a better writer? Just write one sentence (2–Minute Rule), and you’ll often find yourself writing for an hour.
Want to make reading a habit? Just read the first page of a new book (2–Minute Rule), and before you know it, the first three chapters have flown by.
Want to run three times a week? Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, just get your running shoes on and get out the door (2–Minute Rule), and you’ll end up putting mileage on your legs instead of popcorn in your stomach.
Remember, this rule is not about the results you achieve, but it’s just about continually taking actions and finishing the task.Keep on asking this one simple question “Can I finish this in next two minutes? ”
Anyone can spare the next two minutes and start their good habit – Use this time to get things done.Let me know in the comments section if it helped you. And did you find the 2 minute thingy useful.
