This is a lovely parable from “Your Sacred Self” by Dr. Wayne Dyer.
In a mother’s womb were two babies playing. One asked the other: “Hey, Do you believe in life after delivery?” The other answered without a thought, “Why, of course. I do . There has to be something post delivery.”. The other was surprised but the second continued “Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for the best and for what we will be later.”
“Nonsense” said the first. “I think this is bullshit !.. There is no life after delivery. What kind of life do you think would that be?”
The second said, “I don’t know, but there will be more brightness and light than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs, use our hands and fingers and eat from our mouths. Maybe we will have all the senses that we can’t understand now. I think we would also have some wonderful place to have fun”
The first replied, “That is absurd. Walking is impossible and that too with legs?. And eating with our mouths? Ridiculous! The umbilical cord supplies us food and nutrition and everything else we need. But the umbilical cord is so short that we cant be full after walking that far. Life after delivery is to be logically considered unimaginable and should be excluded entirely.”
The second insisted, “Well I have a hope and I think there is something and maybe it’s different than it is here. Maybe we won’t need this physical umbilical cord anymore. May be we could mange ourselves better than we would right now”
The first replied, “Nonsense. And moreover if there is life, then why has no one ever returned from there? Delivery is the end of life, and in the after-delivery there is nothing but darkness and silence. It takes us nowhere. How could you trust something which you cannot even see?”
The first replied “Mother? You actually believe in this word, “Mother “? That’s almost laughable. If at all Mother exists then where is She now?. She would have given us more space to play around and would have loved us more.”
The second said, “She is all around us. We are surrounded by her. We are of Her. It is in Her that we live. Without Her this world would not and could not exist.
She is already taking care of us by feeding us and listening to our voices. There would be some more people who would take care of us after delivery. We would be treated as prince and princess”
Said the first: “Well I don’t see Her, so it is logical that She doesn’t exist. I don’t believe in the things that I don’t see you know..”
To which the second replied smilingly, “ Sometimes, when you’re silent and listen, you can perceive Her presence, and you can hear Her loving voice. I know she is there, I can feel her”
May be this was one of the best explanations to the concept of ‘GOD’ 🙂
The story gives you a clear depiction of how idiot a person can be in his life to not believe in the almighty. In our difficult times we always remember him but never do we realise his presence in our good times. We don’t thank enough for the things we got without struggling. Do we?
We always think we know everything but there is always a divine power which works without you even knowing. He is always there. Inside us, around us, everywhere and every time. You need to trust him, because in his presence you will find solace.
